TUNIS: The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization, also known as ALECSO, held a working session on the Arab participation in international assessments at the organization’s headquarters in Tunis on Friday.
The session discussed the efforts exerted by ALECSO to promote digital transformation and build capacities in Arab educational institutions.
On the next day of the high-level meeting of heads of Arab educational councils, participants reviewed the alphabetic order approved by the Arab League.
The Kingdom drew a clear and integrated strategic plan to raise the education level in conformity with the strategic national directions and the directions of the Kingdom’s leaders, and in implementation of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Dr. Hassan bin Mohsen Kharmi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for general education, who is also head of the Saudi delegation participating in the meeting, said in a statement: “The Kingdom drew a clear and integrated strategic plan to raise (the) education level in conformity with the strategic national directions and the directions of the Kingdom’s leaders, and in implementation of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”
Kharmi indicated that Saudi Arabia has made significant progress in terms of quality and educational evaluation of global competition indicators.
“Although the average of all OECD countries in the PISA 2022 tests declined, the Kingdom has made … significant progress in the sciences and mathematics ranks thanks to the distinguished efforts and well-defined plans set by excellent teachers and school principals, as well as the outcomes which led to an improvement in the indexes of belonging, life, and discipline at schools across the Kingdom according to the PISA 2022 tests report announced in December 2023.”
The meeting started on Thursday in Tunis in the presence of the Tunisian Minister of Education Mohamed Ali Boughdiri and many experts, academics, and education specialists from Arab countries.
Topics discussed during the meeting included reforming the educational system in the Arab world, as well as diagnosing challenges and anticipating the future in relation to the sector.
