RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is hosting 375 local and regional Muay Thai fighters for this year’s Kingdom Open Championship starting today and running until Jan. 20.
Established in 2019 and organized by the Saudi Arabian Muaythai Boxing Federation, the competition is being held at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium.
Bouts will take place between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. daily and feature 314 male and 61 female fighters.
The federation, led by Prince Fahad bin Mansour, aims to improve the technical skills of the athletes.
Saudi Arabia’s athletes won one gold and four bronze medals last year at the World Championship for Adults in Thailand.
They also achieved the highest number of medals at the World Combat Games in Riyadh last year.
