  • Play called “The Bigger Painting” put on as part of Writers and Readers Festival in Khamis Mushayt

RIYADH: The Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission organized the presentation of a play called “The Bigger Painting” as part of the Writers and Readers Festival in Khamis Mushayt, Asir region.

The play presents a girl who has a passion for drawing and ponders the relationship between art and the artist, and how the two influence each other.

The play is written and directed by Ali Al-Zahrani and stars Mohammed Ali, Bandar Al-Hazmi, Saraa Al-Otaibi, Ghaida Salam and Khaled Al-Harithi.

The story revolves around a painter who possesses the power to control everything around her. However, she eventually loses control and attempts to discard her ideas and paintings. As she explores her talents, such as singing and dancing, she realizes that her identity is intricately linked to everything around her. Ultimately, she discovers that she and everything else are only a small part of a larger picture.

The play raises a philosophical question: Who has more influence, the artist or the art? To what extent do the artist’s surroundings affect them? Can artists interfere with their own art? What is the relationship between the artist and their art?

The event attracted a large number of visitors.

The second Asir region’s Writers and Readers Festival presents live performances of performing arts, concerts, and both dramatic and comedy plays.

The festival offers an opportunity for local artists to display their skills in combining art and literature. Through various artistic activities, visitors can engage in interactive art by creating drawings about poems or small artworks.

These artworks are showcased in the “Main Panel,” which embodies the festival’s essence, promoting cultural, artistic and interactive communication.
