RIYADH: The Saudi Geological Survey will announce the findings of various geological survey projects at the upcoming Future Mining Forum, according to an official statement issued on Thursday.
Scheduled to be launched on Jan. 10, 2024, in Riyadh, the findings will include an aerial geophysical survey and findings of a geochemical exploration in the Kingdom.
The statement said the survey reports are part of the General Geological Survey Program initiative.
The event comes as the Kingdom’s mining sector is witnessing a rapid transformation and attracting big investors from various parts of the globe, thanks to the new mining law launched early this year.
The law removed unnecessary formalities and hassles in obtaining exploration licenses in Saudi Arabia.
Apart from providing licenses in a very short time, Saudi Arabia is also ensuring that the mining sector in the Kingdom operates sustainably, especially considering the nation has set the target of net-zero emissions by 2060.
The SGS is also convening leaders of geological survey organizations worldwide on Jan. 9.
The conference will be held at the King Abdulaziz Center in Riyadh to enhance cooperation and direct coordination among countries in geological surveying to achieve common objectives.
SGS CEO Abdullah Al-Shamrani emphasized that this significant international gathering of leaders of survey organizations from various countries will focus on harnessing global capabilities in surveying and mineral exploration.
The participants will exchange opinions and proposals to address the challenges faced by geological survey work, mineral prospecting and the implementation of necessary sustainability practices.
Moreover, the event will identify the geological potential among the countries involved.
Through this gathering, the SGS aims to unify perspectives to bridge gaps in geological surveying encountered by survey organizations, enabling growth in mineral exploration.
It will also emphasize the prioritization of surveying areas, funding sources, and access to reliable geological data to attract investment in mineral prospecting and production.
