ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed sorrow over the passing of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the age of 86 on Saturday, saying he made a “sterling contribution” to strengthen relations between the two countries.
The prime minister visited Kuwait on a two-day visit last month to interact with the top leadership of the Arab country and sign a number of bilateral cooperation and investment deals.
The two countries agreed to broaden and deepen their relationship by specifically focusing on areas related to manpower, information technology, mineral exploration, food security, energy and defense.
“Deeply saddened by the news that Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah has passed away,” the prime minister said in a social media message. “Pakistan stands in solidarity with the Kuwaiti Royal Family and the people of Kuwait at this moment of grief.”

Praying for the departed soul, he added: “The late His Highness will always be remembered for his sterling contribution to strengthening Pak-Kuwait relations.”
Sheikh Nawaf was named crown prince in 2006 by his half-brother Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and took over as emir after his death in September 2020.
Kuwait announced official mourning for 40 days and the closure of official departments for three days after the announcement of its ruler’s death earlier in the day.
