DUBAI: Egyptian British star Amir El-Masry called for a ceasefire in Gaza at the BAFTA Scotland Awards.

Invited on stage to present the Best Actress Award, El-Masry seized the opportunity to call for peace in the region and immediate ceasefire.

"Before I start, I just want to say that my heart goes out to all the women, men, and children who are currently suffering right now in Gaza. Let’s hope for peace in the region and an imminent ceasefire,” he said to applause from the audience.

The actor had previously taken to Instagram to shed a light on the reality in Gaza, while urging other people to continue speaking up.

"I'm against the murder of innocent civilians, and we can agree that no one is happy to see innocent lives being claimed,” he said in a video.
