RIYADH: The Saudi Architecture and Design Commission’s content development program launched a research strategy on Nov. 14 to empower a research community of scholars, academics, students and practitioners.

Sumayah Al-Solaiman, CEO of the commission, said that the strategy will encourage social, economic, and environmental benefits within the architecture and design sector through an inclusive framework.

She added: “The strategy will aid in developing the research infrastructure, creating a stimulating environment and facilitating access to resources, supporting innovation and sector growth, enhancing research capabilities and talents, and encouraging proficiency and capacity building within the architecture and design community.”

To implement the strategy, the commission has devised eight tracks based on leading practices in the sector: Support for publications and community events; fellowship and residency programs to foster growth and knowledge dissemination; comprehensive training covering methodologies, writing, publishing and essential skill sets; and activation of researchers and development of performance metrics.

The other tracks include strengthening facilities and encouraging collaboration; developing a platform for practitioners for collaboration and knowledge exchange; hosting national conferences and networking events; and supporting creative output within the sector.

Launched under the Ministry of Culture in February 2020, the commission aims to develop the Saudi architecture and design sector.

As one of 11 cultural commissions affiliated with the ministry, the Architecture and Design Commission is developing and raising awareness of the sector, supporting practitioners and realizing cultural achievements in alignment with the ministry’s efforts.
