LONDON: Jordan’s King Abdullah on Wednesday met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi, as part of a Gulf tour that also includes Bahrain and Qatar.
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the monarch and his delegation to his country and wished the people of Jordan continued progress and prosperity, the Emirates News Agency reported.
During their meeting, the two leaders discussed relations between their two countries as well as ways to strengthen strategic cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, industry, and food security.
They also talked about regional and international issues of mutual concern and efforts to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza brought about by the Israel-Hamas war.
Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah noted that immediate international action was required to put an end to the conflict while providing full protection for civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.
In addition, they highlighted the importance of ensuring aid deliveries to Gaza by allowing humanitarian organizations to do their jobs and establishing safe and sustainable humanitarian corridors.
And they agreed on the need to continue working together to avoid a new cycle of violence by creating a clear political horizon for a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace that ensured stability and security for the region.
Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE-Jordan relationship was built on a mutual trust, understanding, and respect dating back to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan and King Hussein bin Talal,
adding that both nations had shared values and goals.
Several cooperation deals between the UAE and Jordan have been announced during the king’s visit, and at Wednesday’s meeting Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah witnessed the signing of two memorandums of understanding worth $6 billion aimed at further strengthening collaboration and sustainable development.
The agreements included one between Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Co. and the Jordan Investment Fund, and another concerning a grant from the UAE government to finance development projects in Jordan.
Sheikh Mohamed hosted a luncheon in honor of the Jordanian monarch, which was attended by several senior Emirati and Jordanian officials.
