DUBAI: BBC News Arabic is set to launch a radio service for Gaza in response to the conflict in the region.

Gaza Daily will broadcast emergency news, information about the latest developments and advice on where people can access shelter, food and water.

BBC World Service Director Liliane Landor said: “BBC News Arabic are extremely well-placed to offer this vital service for the people of Gaza at a time of greatest need. Their expertise and specialist knowledge of the region alongside the BBC’s reputation as the most trusted news provider means we can reach civilians in Gaza with the information they need.”

Produced in Cairo and London and broadcast on medium wave, the service, which starts on Friday, will initially run one program a day at 3 p.m. GMT.

From Nov. 10, a second daily update will also be broadcast at 5 a.m. GMT.

The BBC launched a similar service for Gaza during a period of conflict in the summer of 2014.

The BBC closed its Arabic radio service, which was its first in a foreign language and had run since 1938, in January of this year.
