  • Six-year partnership aims to foster sustainable development

RIYADH: The Executive Board of UNESCO recently approved a six-year official partnership with the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) to enhance cooperation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Both organizations will aim to boost their efforts in empowering youth on a global scale, playing a key role in promoting sustainable development.

Mawhiba Secretary-General Amal Al-Hazzaa said the partnership reflected the foundation’s leading role in discovering talents and empowering students in STEM locally, regionally, and internationally.

She noted that was based on the foundation’s duty to raise an empowered and innovative generation capable of making a comprehensive change in the global reality, finding solutions to various challenges, and contributing to the sustainable development and prosperity of humanity.

Al-Hazzaa added that the foundation was actively developing a series of programs that would soon pave the way for increased collaboration with UNESCO.

She pointed out that the programs would bolster Mawhiba’s international reputation and underscore Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting nonprofit organizations.

Mawhiba’s work aligns with UNESCO’s strategy, which seeks to promote equitable, high-quality education, lifelong learning, and capacity building in STEM fields to support sustainable development.

Mawhiba and UNESCO have recently organized seminars and workshops on subjects such as climate change and entrepreneurship in STEM.
