DUBAI: Jordanian filmmaker Amjad Al-Rasheed’s movie “Inshallah a Boy” has won the Best Screenplay Narrative Feature Award at the sixth edition of the Mystic Film Festival.
The festival took place in Stonington, southeastern Connecticut, US, from Oct. 19 to 22.
The film is a production supported by Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
In September, the critically-acclaimed movie won the La Biennale di Venezia Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
It also won the Gan Foundation Award and the Rail d’Or Award for Best Feature Film during the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week.
In “Inshallah a Boy,” Nawal, a mother and homemaker, is grieving the death of her husband when she discovers she might also lose her home. This is because of inheritance laws stating that if she does not have a son, her husband’s family can claim most of the inheritance.
In desperation, she pretends to be pregnant.
