RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is set to expand its investments in Africa, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman highlighting Kenya’s pivotal role in the continent’s stability and growth in a meeting with the country’s president.
Speaking to William Ruto on the sidelines of the Future Investment Initiative summit, the crown prince said the Kingdom would collaborate with Kenya to enhance security in the region.
The leaders discussed bilateral relations and opportunities for cooperation in various fields, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
A statement released on the Kenyan president’s website said the crown prince described the country as having “a tremendous future,” adding: “We definitely need security in East Africa and the Red Sea. If Kenya is a success, then Africa is.”
President Ruto acknowledged the strides made by Africa in economic growth, regional cooperation, and democratization.
However, he expressed concern about the challenges of insecurity, violence, and terrorism that threaten to hinder progress.
“We must come up with a lasting solution to the conflicts in Africa if we are to progress further,” said Ruto. He called on Saudi Arabia to take a leading role in promoting peace on the continent, citing a shared vision.
Other attendees at the meeting included Minister of State and National Security Advisor Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb, and Minister of Finance Mohammed Al-Jadaan.
Head of General Intelligence, Khalid Al-Humaidan, adviser at the royal court, Ahmed Qattan, and Saudi Ambassador to Kenya Khalid Al-Salman were also present.
Both leaders also attended the opening session of the FII summit, where Ruto highlighted the importance of countries working together to foster global growth and prosperity.
Furthermore, the Kenyan president met with Eugene Willemsen, CEO for Africa, Middle East, and South Asia at PepsiCo, to discuss strategies for advancing agriculture in Kenya to boost production.
The 7th edition of the FII summit unites 5,000 delegates and offers insights from 500 distinguished speakers across a spectrum of critical sectors.
The event is held under the theme “The New Compass,” in Riyadh from Oct. 24 to Oct. 26. The FII Institute is a worldwide nonprofit organization with an investment arm dedicated to making a global impact by fostering cross-border collaboration.
