DUBAI: US comedian Dave Chappelle slammed the Israeli bombing of Gaza, as well as the US’s support of the bombing, at a show in Boston.
At the event, which took place in TD Garden, the actor condemned the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas and also addressed the bombing campaign in Gaza while accusing the US of aiding in the killing of civilians. Israel began unrelenting air strikes on Gaza to its southwest after Hamas militants breached the border and killed 1,400 people and took 212 hostages back to Gaza.
Gaza's Health Ministry said on Sunday that Israel's air and missile strikes in retaliation had killed at least 4,741, more than half of which are children, and wounded 15,898, with over a million of the tiny, densely populated enclave's 2.3 million people displaced.
According to people in attendance, an audience member asked Chappelle to shut up, which sparked a heated response from the comedian.
“You can’t take tens of billions from my country and go kill innocent women and children and tell me to shut the f***up,” he said, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Some members of the crowd began chanting “free Palestine,” to which Chappelle replied: “You are damn right, free Palestine.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, some of the attendees then asked: “What about Hamas?”
