MANILA, 25 September 2003 — Controversial actress and TV host Kris Aquino revealed yesterday that Para?aque Mayor Joey Marquez not only pointed a gun at her but had also infected her with a sexually-transmitted disease.

Breaking her silence for the first time on the cause of her reported break-up with her live-in partner, Kris also accused Marquez of lying for denying that he pointed a gun at her and had abused her physically after a heated argument.

“You are a liar, Joey. You know what happened. I am ready to take a lie detector test,” Kris said in an exclusive interview over ABS-CBN where she is a talent.

“I have my faults. But one thing I am not is a liar,” said a visibly distraught Kris who fought back tears.

A bruised and puffy-eyed Kris went to the Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (PACER) Tuesday to file an incident report on Marquez’s alleged physical abuse.

Kris, daughter of former President Corazon Aquino, admitted that her quarrel with Marquez Monday night stemmed from a text message that was sent by a woman whom she identified as “Mariz.”

She claimed that Marquez tried to erase the text message and that after a brief scuffle for his cellular phone, the actor threw the unit away. Kris said it was when she told Marquez that she was leaving him that the actor pointed a gun at her and pulled back the trigger. Then, she said, he removed the magazine from the weapon and got rid of it.

Kris, who was staying at a condominium with Marquez in the town of Taguig at the time of the quarrel, said she was shocked by what her partner did and left immediately with her son and make-up artist who was with her in the unit. She said she went straight to her mother’s home in Quezon City where she told her story.

But Kris said her reasons for leaving Marquez, her boyfriend for more than a year, went deeper than what the actor wanted the public to believe.

Among other things, she claimed that Marquez had infected her with a sexually transmitted disease early this year that she had to seek medical treatment. Kris said that Marquez had, time and again, made her feel low about herself by telling her that after having been infected, no other man would love her.

“I lost my self-respect because of that,” Kris said who claimed she had sacrificed so much for the actor whom she loved “so much.”

At the same time, Kris apologized to all the people she had hurt, including Marquez’s estranged wife actress Alma Moreno. “Maybe you and Joey could have reconciled if I did not get into the picture,” said Kris.

Kris also thanked her mother who, even after opposing the relationship, was there to give her daughter her “unconditional love.”

Meanwhile, the “Report a mistress” group at the House of Representatives, led by the party-list group Citizens Battle Against Corruption (Cibac), was quoted as saying on the same radio station that it would help Kris in her case against Marquez.

“Report a mistress” was formed in response to Malaca?ang’s lifestyle and morality checks on government officials. It is tasked to help victims of spousal abuse and wives of philandering husbands.

Earlier yesterday, police authorities reportedly said Marquez could face a grave threat charge for allegedly poking a gun at Kris.

So far, however, police said they only have an incident report on Marquez and are still waiting for Kris’s decision on the case.
