RIYADH: Prince Badr bin Sultan, deputy governor of Makkah region, crowned the winners of the fifth Crown Prince Camel Festival held in Taif.

Prince Badr attended the closing ceremony on behalf of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Four races over a distance of 6 kilometers were held during the festival’s final day with participation of elite camels and amid great competition between camel owners from across the Gulf countries.

The current edition of the festival was launched on August 1 and saw wide local, Arab, and international participation from camel owners and organizations.

The festival’s financial prizes exceeded $15 million.

An international women’s camel jockeys marathon was held for the first time in the festival’s history.

The festival achieves major economic returns by organizing many accompanying events that support this heritage and contribute to preserving its value and great historical legacy.

It also enhances the cultural depth of the Kingdom, in addition to rooting the camel heritage in the Saudi, Arab and Islamic culture, the Saudi Press Agency said.
