  • Adel Al-Jubeir discussed strengthening cooperation to combat the impact of climate change

NAIROBI: Adel Al-Jubeir, Saudi Arabia’s minister of state for foreign affairs and climate affairs envoy, on Wednesday met with John Kerry, the US special presidential envoy for climate, and United Nations (UN) officials.
The talks were held on the sidelines of the Africa Climate Summit in Kenya, Nairobi.
During the meetings, Al-Jubeir discussed strengthening cooperation to combat the impact of climate change and preserve the environment.
He reviewed issues of common interest with Achim Steiner, administrator of the UN Development Program (UNDP); Inger Andersen, executive director of the UN Environment Program; and Maimunah Mohd Sharif, executive director of the UN Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).
The Saudi minister also discussed climate action among other key topics on the summit’s agenda with Portuguese Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Ana Fontoura Gouveia and the Nigerian Minister of State for Environment Ishaq Salako.

The two-day summit, which ended Sept. 6, brought together heads of state and global organizations chiefs.
Al-Jubeir headed the Saudi delegation to the event.
