RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Museums Commission, in collaboration with the EU delegation in Riyadh, will host a comprehensive training program on museum management and development from Sept. 17 to 21.
The program will be held at Al-Mashtal Creative Space, located in the Diplomatic Quarter in the Saudi capital.
The five-day program will cover various areas such as preparing inventory lists, documentation, and preserving art collections within museums.
On the first day, the program will focus on the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage from a European historical perspective.

The five-day program will cover areas such as preparing inventory lists, documentation, preserving art collections, preservation and restoration of cultural heritage, preserving archives, digital innovation, restoration techniques, and technical careers in conservation.
The next day will include sessions on preserving archives, providing a general introduction to archive principles, and facilitating an open conversation about the significance of heritage.
On the third day, the program will delve into digital innovation and the use of computer-based cataloging for retrieval, web access to information, and public access to heritage within museums.
On the fourth day, participants will learn restoration techniques that encompass various approaches, ranging from archaeological artworks to contemporary art.
The fifth and final day of the program will conclude by focusing on technical careers related to the conservation process. Participants will have the opportunity to explore and gain insights into various technical roles involved in the field of conservation.
In 2021, the Museums Commission unveiled its strategy for the transformation of the museum sector, which encompasses ambitious plans to expand the number and variety of museums throughout the Kingdom. The aim is to attract more visitors and enhance the nation’s cultural identity.
As part of this strategy, there will be a concentrated effort to create tangible assets across the country that showcase and celebrate the cultural heritage of the nation.
