RIYADH: Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority is to take part in the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition.

Organized by the Emirates Falconers’ Club under the title “Sustainability and Heritage ... A Reborn Aspiration,” the event will be staged at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center from Sept. 2 to 8.

The authority aims to support environmental, cultural, and heritage values, while promoting traditional sports and sustainable hunting.

Mohammed Al-Shaalan, CEO of the reserve, said: “Our participation in the exhibition will be an opportunity to showcase our experience for sustainable hunting as the first sustainable hunting reserve in Saudi Arabia.

“It will also shed light on the development of the pioneering program for sustainable hunting, which allows hunting in limited numbers to avoid harming wildlife, and minimizes illegal hunting through providing sustainable alternatives, reducing the impact on wildlife, reviving the traditional hunting heritage, all under the regulations and organized standards.

“The reserve will highlight its efforts to develop the skills of local communities, and support entrepreneurship and the handicraft industry,” he added.

The reserve will dedicate a corner in its booth for beekeepers to showcase Saudi natural honey, and a folklore band will put on performances including traditional Samri dances.

Al-Shaalan noted that the reserve would also be highlighting its vision to become a global sanctuary and ecotourism destination.

In addition, the Saudi pavilion will house a model of the Al-Ashar pond, a station on the Kufi pilgrimage route, or Zubaydah Trail, and a prominent heritage landmark within the reserve.
