CAIRO: The regional dimension remains one of the main axes of cooperation with Jordan, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Monday.
His remarks came as the 31st session of the Higher Jordanian-Egyptian Committee concluded at the Jordan prime minister’s headquarters in Amman.
Madbouly and Jordan’s Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh witnessed the signing of 12 documents in areas that enhanced bilateral cooperation between both countries.
Among the documents was a memorandum of understanding in the field of drawing economic and development policies, another in the area of financial control, as well as an executive program in environmental protection and another in the field of social affairs.
The minutes of the session were also signed.
Madbouly co-chaired the session alongside Al-Khasawneh.
Madbouly said that the committee had succeeded in attaining important achievements and pioneering projects.
He referred to the strong Egyptian-Jordanian partnership in the field of gas and energy.
Madbouly said that the 31st session of the committee had convened amid growing challenges, both at the international and regional levels.
He said that the Egyptian government believed that there was still ample space to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries to promote trade and investment.
Madbouly highlighted the boom that could be achieved in transit trade, especially in light of the massive development and expansion taking place at Egyptian ports in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
The Egyptian leader said that the tripartite cooperation mechanism that brought the two countries together with Iraq was a model that had promising opportunities, not only on the economic level but also strategically.
Al-Khasawneh said that economic and trade relations between Egypt and Jordan had always been dynamic, in addition to the strong political ties.
“We are keen on cooperation to achieve strategic ambitions and initiatives on the ground, especially the tripartite cooperation mechanism that brings together Egypt, Jordan and Iraq,” he said.
Madbouly said in statements on the sidelines of the committee meeting that “we discussed electricity interconnection projects.”
Jordan’s King Abdullah received Madbouly. The king welcomed the various topics of cooperation that were agreed on between the Egyptian and Jordanian delegations.
The king stressed his keenness to follow up on the process of developing and strengthening relations with Egypt.
He called for more efforts to accelerate the implementation of the tripartite areas of cooperation with Iraq.
