ISLAMABAD: Seven female students drowned in a river in southwestern Pakistan's Turbat district on Sunday while two others were in critical condition, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said in a report.
The tragic incident took place when the students, aged between 10 and 17 years old, went to bathe in a river in Turbat during their school trip, APP said. Locals recovered bodies of the deceased and took them to a hospital, the state-run media said.
"According to police, at least 7 girls died and the condition of two others is critical due to drowning in a river while taking a bath during their school’s trip on Sunday," the APP report said.
Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo expressed sorrow over the incident and prayed for the souls of the departed.
"The Chief Minister has directed the district administration to ensure full support to the victims' families and best medical care should be provided to girls who have survived the incident," the APP wrote.
