LONDON: Over 400 Egyptian citizens were successfully evacuated from Sudan on Sunday as fighting continued to rage in the country.

The 436 citizens crossed into Egypt via land and the country continues to secure evacuations to ensure the safe and sound return of Egyptians to their country, the spokesperson for the foreign ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

An Iraqi citizen was killed in the fighting on Sunday, according to Iraq’s state news agency, as foreign governments evacuated diplomats, staff and others trapped in Sudan.

Rival generals Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo battled for a ninth day on Sunday with no sign of a truce that had been declared for Eid Al-Fitr.
