Rated 4 out of 5 stars on goodreads.com, “The Magic of Thinking Big” is still one of the bestselling books globally more than 60 years after its publication.

The book explains how to gain a broader perception of life and reach your goals by changing the way you think.

Author David Schwartz offers a step-by-step guide through 13 chapters on how to achieve this and sustain positive thinking.

The book revolves around four foundational principles: belief, persistence, confidence and realistic judgment.

In the opening chapters, Schwartz emphasizes the power of a person’s beliefs. Belief in your capabilities is the first step to success.

The author believes that the mind will give excuses not to achieve goals if the person does not think goals are achievable, too.

The book also explores talent versus persistence. Millions of talented people graduate every year from universities, but this is no guarantee of success. Successful people often rely more on persistence than talent to reach their goals.

The third fundamental is confidence outweighing fear. To initiate a successful plan, start with confidence and avoid hesitation or procrastination. The more you doubt yourself, the more fear grows.

“Go first class in everything” is Schwartz’s description of choosing quality over quantity. He believes that by dressing well, for example, you show respect to yourself and increase your confidence as well.

The author’s final piece of advice is to avoid making judgments based on appearance, and instead look for potential.

“Look at things not as they are, but as they can be. Visualization adds value to everything. A big thinker always visualizes what can be done in the future” writes Schwartz.

“The Magic of Thinking Big” is available in Jarir Bookstore.
