MAKKAH: More than 2.5 million worshippers gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Wednesday evening, the 29th night of Ramadan, to perform Isha and Taraweeh prayers and watch the completion of a Qur’an recitation that has been taking place, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The mosque began to fill with people in the early hours of the day. Its imam, Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, led prayers during which he called on Allah to protect the Kingdom and all Muslim countries from evil and bless them with stability and safety.

In keeping with directives from the Saudi leadership, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque said it had implemented all necessary procedures and services to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors to the mosque.
