GENEVA: During a high-level donor conference in Geneva on Monday, hosted by Sweden and Switzerland in cooperation with the UN, international donors pledged $1.2 billion to support a humanitarian response plan to help 17.3 million people in war-torn Yemen this year.
The participants in the conference included Sarhan Al-Minaikher, the Gulf Cooperation Council’s ambassador to Yemen.
GCC nations are among the biggest international donors to Yemen, having provided more than $17 billion in aid since the conflict in the country began in 2014, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and Swedish Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell also attended, along with delegates from other donor countries and international humanitarian organizations.
