KSRelief chief meets UN, relief officials on sidelines of Riyadh humanitarian forum

RIYADH: Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, adviser at the Royal Court and supervisor general of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, met with Martin Griffiths, the UN under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator.

During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum, the two sides discussed relief and humanitarian issues, and ways to enhance cooperation between them to alleviate the suffering of countries in need around the world.

They also discussed the outcomes of the forum, where Griffiths praised the impressive level and great success at the research, scientific and organizational levels.

 

 

Al-Rabeeah met with Maimunah Mohd Sharif, executive director of the UN Human Settlements Programme, to discuss prospects for cooperation between KSRelief and UN-Habitat. They also focused on providing appropriate shelter and supporting the infrastructure for displaced people worldwide.

Sharif expressed appreciation for the forum, which has highlighted the vital issue of humanitarian aid and sought to raise the level of relief coordination among the concerned authorities.

Al-Rabeeah held meetings with Director-General of the UN Development Program Achim Steiner to discuss frameworks for cooperation and joint coordination and ways to develop them, and with the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, to discuss issues of common interest related to relief and humanitarian affairs.

 

 

Al-Rabeeah met with Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross Robert Mardini, who praised the Kingdom’s humanitarian role, through KSRelief, which extended to all continents and to all people affected by various circumstances and crises.

He spoke with Dr. Jehangir Khan, director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Center on ways to provide assistance in conflict areas to prevent fragile societies from becoming hostages to terrorism.

He also held separate meetings with Director General of the OPEC Fund for International Development Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, CEO of the Qatar Charity Yousef Al-Kuwari, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security Yerlan Baidaulet, Abdul Rahman Abdul Shakour, the Special Envoy of the Somali President for Humanitarian Affairs and Drought, and Somali Minister of Health Dr. Ali Hajji Adan.
