SINGAPORE: Saudi Minister of Transport Saleh Al-Jasser has headed a delegation to Singapore — which includes representatives of ministries and public departments — for the Saudi-Singaporean Joint Committee meeting.
The committee’s second session aims to strengthen economic relations and discuss ways of developing trade between the two countries.
A number of topics and initiatives of common interest were discussed in the areas of transport, logistics and infrastructure, energy and industry, the digital economy, investment and finance, and tourism and culture.
Al-Jasser took part in a discussion panel of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, in the presence of representatives from the private sectors of both countries, during which he stressed the importance of their role as key drivers in the development of economy and trade.
Al-Jasser and the accompanying delegation visited Changi International Airport and a port at the close of the opening meeting, to see firsthand Singapore’s experience in their management, and the modern techniques used.
Visits also included the Centre of Excellence for Testing and Research of Autonomous Vehicles at Nanyang Technological University.
The Saudi minister met his Singaporean counterpart Iswaran S Iswaran on the sidelines of the meeting, and signed two memorandums of understanding in the field of transport.
He also met the Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs Mohamad Maliki bin Osman, and the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu Hai Yien.
Saudi’s Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services is aiming to invest in its distinctive strategic location, and cement its position among other countries as a global logistics hub for trade and economic movement in the continents of Asia, Europe and Africa through implementation of a package of major projects.
