RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Shoura Council Speaker Mishaal Al-Sulami met with EU Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore and his accompanying delegation in Riyadh on Monday.

Al-Sulami emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between Saudi Arabia and the EU, affirming the council’s concern for the protection of human rights as evidenced by its formation of a specialized committee to this end.

For his part, Gilmore praised the Kingdom for the significant reforms it has made in human rights and the role it has played in promoting security, peace and stability in the region.

He also praised the Green Saudi and Green Middle East initiatives, which were unveiled by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, asserting that the Kingdom is a strategic partner of the EU.

During the meeting, they discussed issues of common interest between the Shoura Council and the EU and the importance of enhancing cooperation opportunities between the two bodies.
