RIYADH: The Saudi national football team defeated Iceland 1-0 in an international friendly on Sunday ahead of their World Cup campaign.
The match took place at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium as part of the third stage of a preparatory program for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which kicks off on Nov. 20.
The Green Falcons’ goal was scored by Saud Abdel Hamid in the 26th minute.
Saudi captain Salman Al-Faraj was injured in the 40th minute and replaced by Ayman Yahya.
The match against Iceland is the Green Falcons’ fourth friendly in the current stage, with one game to come against Panama on Nov. 10.
