RIYADH: Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman recently met Rashad Al-Alimi, chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council.
During the meeting in Riyadh, Prince Khalid passed on his country’s hopes for security, stability and peace in Yemen.
Discussions centered around efforts to renew a UN-brokered truce which expired on Oct. 2 but had not been extended by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
In a tweet, Prince Khalid said: “We also discussed the latest developments in Yemen and future steps to deal with possible scenarios.”
The Saudi Press Agency reported that Prince Khalid reiterated the Saudi-led alliance’s support for an inclusive political solution to the Yemeni crisis that would bring peace and redevelopment to the country.
The last six months has seen the longest sustained period with fighting in Yemen for eight years, resulting in a significant drop in civilian deaths.
During the truce, which came into effect on April 2 and was twice renewed, thousands of people have been able to fly from Sanaa airport, and more than 50 fuel ships have entered the port of Hodeidah, ending severe fuel shortages in Houthi-controlled areas.
