6 talks to attend during Arab Cinema Week

Dubai’s Cinema Akil is hosting its first edition of Arab Cinema Week from Oct. 7 - 16. Here are six talks to attend for filmmakers and actors from around the region.

  • Sara Messfer

    During the event, the director will talk about “Becoming,” her 70-minute fiction film featuring shorts that focus on the role and experience of women in society.

  • Bassel Ghandour

    The filmmaker is known for his 2016 Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning film “Theeb.” He is currently directing a docuseries that follows five Syrian footballers who were recruited to play professionally in Brazil.

  • Saleh Bakri

    The actor, famous for his role in “Costa Brava, Lebanon,” worked with filmmakers Elia Suleiman, Nadine Labaki, Rashid Masharawi and Lubna Azabal on productions in Lebanon, Morocco and the UAE.

  • Karim Aïnouz

    The award-winning filmmaker and visual artist’s latest feature film “Invisible Life” won the Un Certain Regard Prize at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

  • Khadar Ayderus

    The Finnish Somali writer and filmmaker is famous for his critically acclaimed films “The Night Thief” in 2017 and “The Gravedigger’s Wife” in 2021.

  • Short film program

    This talk will host three filmmakers Suzannah Mirghani, Shaima Al-Tamimi and Sarah Al-Hashimi, who will discuss their latest productions.
