JEDDAH: Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man and wounded 16 others on Tuesday in another incident of random shooting during a raid in the occupied West Bank.

Mohammad Sabaaneh, 29, was shot dead while capturing video footage on his phone of the Israeli attack in the Palestinian city of Jenin.

“He was filming on his motorcycle and he fell down to the ground,” witness Uday Naaseh said. “They shot him.”

Israeli forces have killed more than 100 Palestinians in raids in Jenin and elsewhere since a wave of street attacks in Israel and the West Bank in April, in which 18 people died. They said the aim of Tuesday’s operation was to demolish the home of Raad Hazem, a Palestinian who shot dead three Israelis in a bar in Tel Aviv on April 7.

Palestinian leaders say the raids and home demolitions amount to collective punishment and are prohibited under international law. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned Israel’s actions.

“The ministry views the systematic Israeli escalation with grave concern and we will follow this crime up with the International Criminal Court and the UN Human Rights Council,” it said.

The Israeli military said they were “looking into” the latest killing. It came a day after they finally admitted that an Israeli soldier “probably” killed the US Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead while covering an Israeli raid in Jenin in May.
