Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman says team morale high ahead of Hong Kong clash in UAE
  • On Friday, Pakistan take on Hong Kong for the first time in a T20 match
  • Pakistan lost their first match against India by five wickets last Sunday

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani batter Fakhar Zaman said on Thursday that despite the team’s loss to India in the opening fixture of the Asia Cup 2022, the players were in high spirits ahead of their clash against Hong Kong on Friday.

Pakistan lost their opening match against arch-rivals India by five wickets in Dubai last Sunday. India climbed to the top of Group A on Wednesday after it beat Hong Kong by 40 runs.

On Friday, Hong Kong and Pakistan will take the field for the first time in a T20 cricket match at the historical Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

"It was a tight game against India, the morale is high in the camp and all our players are confident of doing better in the upcoming game,” Zaman said in a video message.

The left-handed batter said T20 cricket is a short format where both sides have equal opportunities to play impressive cricket. He said to aim for the Super 4 berth, Pakistan will have to minimize its weaknesses and “put up a good show.”

"Hong Kong has played good cricket in the qualifiers but we will try to stick to our plans,” he said. "The weather is hot here in UAE but we are trying to keep ourselves hydrated. We'll be playing against some competitive teams in Super 4 and for that we need to be in perfect shape.”
