ABHA: Morocco and Palestine completed the lineup for the quarterfinals of the 2022 Arab Cup U-20 after the North Africans defeated their Asian counterparts 1-0 at Damac Stadium in Abha recently.
The victory saw Morocco top Group F with a maximum of six points, while Palestine, despite the loss, progressed as one of the competition’s best second-placed teams, with three points. Both teams had earlier in the tournament defeated the group’s other team, Sudan.
Morocco’s winning goal came from Anas Mimouni in the 84th minute.
Morocco and Palestine are joined in the last eight by the other five group winners: Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia, to be joined by Yemen, the second of the best-placed runners-up.
In Sunday’s quarterfinals, Saudi Arabia will take on Yemen, Egypt and Morocco meet in an all-African clash, Jordan face Palestine, and Algeria are up against neighbors Tunisia.
