Egyptian minister, USAID delegation hold talks
  • The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education is keen to enhance more aspects of cooperation with the agency
  • Egypt is hosting the 27th UN Climate Change Conference in November in Sharm El-Sheikh.

CAIRO: Dr. Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Egypt’s minister for higher education and scientific research, met with Andrew Plett, assistant director of the US Agency for International Development for the Middle East, and his accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Population in Cairo.
“We value the fruitful cooperation over the past years with the US Agency for International Development in the many joint educational and research projects that have been implemented in the fields of higher education and support for scientific research,” Abdel-Ghaffar said during the meeting.
“The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education is keen to enhance more aspects of cooperation with the agency, especially on the issue of climate change and adapting to it.”
Egypt is hosting the 27th UN Climate Change Conference in November in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Regarding the health sector, Abdel-Ghaffar said: “We are making efforts to raise the efficiency of health workers, combat diseases and epidemics related to climate change as well as common diseases … provide clean energy for health facilities, and manage environmental health and medical waste.”
He added: “The ability of health care facilities in a number of Egyptian governorates to adapt to climate change and environmental sustainability is also being evaluated.”
