Saudi FM attends inauguration ceremony for Somalia’s president

RIYADH: On behalf of King Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan attended the inauguration ceremony of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Aden Adde International Airport, in the country’s capital Mogadishu, on Thursday.

Mohamud met with Prince Faisal, who conveyed the greetings of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, their wishes for the president’s success, and for the Somali people’s advancement and prosperity.

Mohamud conveyed his greetings to King Salman and the crown prince, as well as the Saudi government and people.

Prince Faisal stressed that the Kingdom aspires to keep working towards consolidating, promoting and advancing the friendly relations between the two peoples.

The meeting was attended by the Saudi ambassador to Somalia, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Mawlid, and the director general of the office of the Saudi foreign minister, Abdulrahman Al-Daoud.

A delegation from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation headed by its Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Youssef bin Mohammed Al-Dubaie, also attended the ceremony.

Al-Dubaie delivered a speech on behalf of the OIC’s Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, in which he commended the peaceful transfer of power in Somalia.

The OIC chief’s speech stated his hopes that the transfer would lead to more prosperity, development, and stability for Somalia.

It also conveyed Taha’s wishes that Mohamud would be successful during his tenure.
