RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman on Wednesday sent a telegram to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, following the floods and landslides that swept the state of Pernambuco.
At least 106 people have died and 10 are still missing in Brazil, the government said on Tuesday, as heavy rains tore through urban towns in the northeastern part of the country for a sixth consecutive day.
The king said: “We learned the news of the floods and landslides that swept the state of Pernambuco in the north-east of your country, and the resulting deaths and missing persons.”
He added: “We share the pain of this affliction, and we send to Your Excellency, the families of the deceased, and your friendly people, our deepest condolences.”
He also said he hoped those missing would be found.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent Bolsonaro a similar cable.
