LAHORE: Thousands of visitors have come to watch performances by star comedians during the Pakistani Night event at Jeddah Season, a main cultural festival in Saudi Arabia, organizers said on Saturday.
The annual citywide art, culture and entertainment festival has been held in Jeddah since 2019, as part of the countrywide Saudi Seasons initiative by the General Entertainment Authority.
The festival’s Pakistan Night was held on Friday, featuring a performance by Pakistani television stand-up comedian Shakeel Siddiqui.
Siddiqui, who has also risen to prominence in India, has been a star since the 1990s, when he appeared in the “Bakra Qiston Pe” show directed by the late Pakistani comedy legend Omar Sharif.
Other Pakistani comedy stars who performed during Friday’s event were Amir Rambo and Kashif Khan.
“It was a huge success for Jeddah Season. One of its own kind,” Nosheen Wasim, event management consultant at the General Entertainment Authority, told Arab News.
“Around 10,000 people have attended,” she said, adding that she is still receiving a lot of positive feedback from those who participated.
This year’s Jeddah Season started on May 2 and will run through June, featuring shows by international performers, including Korean pop stars and Cirque du Soleil, a Canadian entertainment company and the largest contemporary circus producer in the world.
The Saudi Seasons initiative also includes Sharqiyah Season in March and Riyadh Season in November.
