Hyundai launches food distribution drive in Kingdom

Hyundai Motor Company in the Middle East and Africa, along with its Saudi distributors, have launched an initiative to give out Ramadan food packages to the needy and poor across the Kingdom. The “Mobility for Food Bank” campaign will be implemented in partnership with the Saudi Food Bank, Dar Al-Hekma University, and Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University.

The campaign, which aims to reach 1,500 beneficiaries in both the urban and rural areas of the Kingdom, will run for the duration of the holy month.

“The initiative underscores Hyundai Motor Company’s social responsibility as a mobility and sustainability solutions provider,” a statement said.

Hyundai’s three distributors — Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors Co, Al-Wallan Trading Company and Almajdouie Automotive Company — will participate, along with volunteering students from the two universities, who will assist in food packaging and distribution.

“We at Hyundai Motor are conscious of the responsibility to leave a positive impact on people’s lives, especially the people who have undergone difficult circumstances due to the recent uncertainty the world has witnessed,” said Hyoung Jung Im, vice president of Hyundai Motor Company. “The initiative highlights our commitment to this responsibility. By utilizing our mobility solutions to create a spirit of unity and solidarity, we can give back to the people during the month of giving.”

In a statement, the Saudi Food Bank expressed keenness to enhance its cooperation with strategic partners in implementing charitable and humanitarian initiatives.

An official campaign launch event was held in Dar Al-Hekma University, where an MoU was signed between Tamer Al-Hakeem, managing director, Hyundai and Genesis at Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors Co., and Professor Malak Abunar, dean of student affairs at Dar Al-Hekma University. The signing ceremony was followed by speeches given by representatives of both Hyundai/ Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors Co. and Dar Al-Hekma University. A keynote speech on the values of social responsibility and sustainability was delivered by Hattan Hamoudeh from Jeddah municipality.

In a statement, volunteering students from Dar Al-Hekma University expressed their happiness in being part of this initiative to give back to society. They said the campaign reflects the values and vision of the university, which aims at graduating pioneering and socially responsible young women — in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The food distribution drive falls within the automaker’s “Hyundai Continue” charity campaign. The aim is to provide the necessary support to target groups of low-income families, orphans and widows, in order to improve their living conditions, especially in Ramadan, ensuring food security and meeting their other needs.

Three Hyundai Staria vans will be used to carry the volunteers and food packages to different areas of the Kingdom.

Through this campaign, Hyundai Motor Company also aims to fulfill its commitment to sustainability by reducing its environmental footprint through the use of sustainable packaging directly from the food suppliers and providing efficient transportation. All packages contain sustainable food that lasts for at least six months and can be used by the families during and after Ramadan.

Under the motto “Goodness is our destination and aim,” the campaign follows an all-inclusive operation to strengthen the connection between businesses, organizations, and local communities. It reflects Hyundai’s standpoint toward the company’s global initiative “Hyundai Continue,” which encompasses all activities aiming to create a shared value toward a sustainable future.
