RIYADH: Members of the Shoura Council’s joint Saudi Mexican parliamentary friendship committee on Wednesday held talks with Mexico’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcelo Ebrard.
The meeting in Riyadh, chaired by council member Dr. Ibrahim bin Mahmoud Al-Nahas and attended by Mexican Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Anibal Gomez Toledo, was aimed at further strengthening ties between the two countries.
Ebrard noted that his nation looked forward to achieving common goals in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 reform plan, particularly in relation to tourism and culture, and said the meeting would hopefully contribute toward bolstering Saudi Mexican economic partnerships and expanding trade cooperation.
Al-Nahas pointed out the historical links that had brought the Kingdom and Mexico together in various fields and said the parliamentary friendship committees could play a major role in developing bilateral relations.
Also among the Mexican party present at the meeting was Ebrard’s wife, Rosalinda Bueso Asfura, director of the foreign minister’s office, Daniel Milan, executive director of strategies and public diplomacy, Alfonso Zogby, and director of the ministry’s foreign relations department, Jose Cardenas.
The parliamentary friendship committees of the Saudi Shoura Council aim to develop and strengthen ties and communication between the advisory body and legislative councils and parliaments in other countries, while also seeking to increase cooperation with parliamentary forums at regional and international levels.
