The Riyadh chapter of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys (Alumni) Association has elected eminent Indian educationist Arshad Ali Khan as its new president. The new team for 2022-2024 took charge last week. It is composed of Samina Masood, first woman vice president; Faisal Zuberi, general secretary; Saad bin Mohammed, treasurer; and Zeba Masood, executive member.
Outgoing president Syed Mohammed Mutayyab thanked all Riyadh-based alumni of the university for their support and cooperation during his term in office. He presented his report card and wished the best for the new team. He received a token of appreciation for the achievements during his presidency and for maintaining the glory of the alumni association during his four years in office.
Khan expressed his gratitude to the entire Aligarh community in Riyadh — especially Chief Election Commissioner Zubair Fatemi and Election Commissioners Irfan Ahmed, Dr. Sabah Ansar and Mutayyab — for the smooth conduct of the election process. At the installation ceremony, Khan thanked the chief guest, Choudhary Israr Khan, a prominent UAE businessman; the guest of honor, Abdul Azim Khan, founder and former president of the association; and other senior alumni who were present, including Nadeem Tareen, Anwar Khursheed, Aftab Mahmood Khan and Mairaj Mohammed Khan.
Outlining the future action plan, Khan said that his team was committed to introducing some new initiatives, such as the formation of an exclusive club to improve students’ speaking skills, admission and career counseling sessions, establishing charity for the needy, conducting sports activities, and opening NEET and JEE entrance examination centers in Riyadh.
Khan assured that the association would work to encourage participation of all alumni in whatever initiatives the team undertakes. He requested all alumni to provide their suggestions for better functioning of the organization and the activities that they would like to see and participate in.
For the first time in the history of the association in Riyadh, women members have been given the opportunity to be part of the democratic process. The presidents of various Indian organizations congratulated the newly-elected president.
Abul Farah, former general secretary, moderated the ceremony, and Humayun Hashmi, the former vice president, presented a vote of thanks.
