ISLAMABAD: Pakistani teenager Ahsan Ramzan, 16, on Friday won the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championship after beating Iran’s Amir Sarkosh, becoming the youngest player ever to win the title.
Ramzan had also defeated defending champion Muhammad Asif in the semi-finals.
According to media reports, this was the first time all Pakistan cueists, three in total, made it into the semifinals of the tournament.
“Congratulations to 16 year old Ahsan Ramzan for winning the World Snooker Championship in Doha. Outstanding honors you bring to Pakistan, and you make us proud,” Pakistani President Arif Alvi said in a tweet.
Iftikhar Durrani, a member of ruling PTI party, shared an emotional video of the young Pakistani cueist after he won the title.
“Young man with Big goals and dreams, you’ll go to heights with your talent!,” Durrani said in the tweet.
Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez was also among those who took to Twitter to congratulate Ramzan.
“Congratulations Ahsan Ramzan IBSF world Snooker champion. U [You] made whole nation proud,” Hafeez said.
