RIYADH: Greece is contemplating acquiring more nuclear-produced power from Bulgaria if a third nuclear reactor is built in its capital Sofia, Bloomberg reported.
This comes as both countries plan to diversify energy supply in an attempt to reduce dependency on Russian energy.
Through a bilateral agreement, Greece would commit to buy a set quantity of power produced at a new nuclear reactor that Sofia might construct.
The amount of power to be acquired by Greece, its price, and the time frame are yet to be disclosed.
“The fact that there’s a buyer of this energy fends off the business risk and we can start with very quick construction,” Bloomberg reported, citing Bulgarian Finance Minister Assen Vassilev.
Similarly, Serbia and North Macedonia are also eyeing Bulgarian nuclear fueled power, according to Bulgarian Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov.
