CAIRO: Egypt has welcomed a UN Security Council resolution that labels Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militia as a terrorist group, expands an existing arms embargo, and condemns attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

“We hope this decision will contribute to stopping hostilities and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians, as well as advancing the path of a political solution to the Yemeni crisis … that preserves Yemen’s unity, independence and territorial integrity, and safeguards the capabilities of the brotherly Yemeni people and their aspirations for security, stability and prosperity,” said Ahmed Hafez, spokesman for Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.
