ISLAMABAD: Pacer Shaheen Afridi and left-handed batter Fakhar Zaman powered Lahore Qalandars to a comfortable win over former champions Quetta Gladiators in their Pakistan Super League (PSL) match at Lahore’s Qaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
Afridi once again bowled an impressive first over, dismissing the dangerous Jason Roy and James Vince on two successive deliveries to deal an early blow to Quetta that the side never recovered from.
Skipper Sarfaraz hit a couple of boundaries but was run out by Kamran Ghulam. Iftikhar Ahmed scored a half-century, while Umar Akmal hit a blistering 25 but it wasn’t enough for the Gladiators, who were only able to post a modest 141 runs on the scoreboard.
David Weise and Afridi took two wickets each, while Haris Rauf and Rashid Khan dismissed one each.
In response, Qalandars were just too good for the Gladiators. In-form Fakhar Zaman scored 53 off 42 balls, while Abdullah Shafique made 19 from 20 deliveries.
Kamran Ghulam played a stellar knock of 55 runs off 39 balls while Mohammad Hafeez remained unbeaten with 9 runs. Qalandars cruised to victory with eight wickets in hand and 14 balls to spare.
With this victory, Qalandars solidify their position at number two on the points table, with eight points. They have four victories now from six matches and tail behind table-toppers Multan Sultans by four points.
