ISLAMABAD: Over 100 million people in Pakistan have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine and more than 75 million are fully vaccinated, data from the federal pandemic response body, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), showed on Wednesday.
Pakistan, with a population of 220 million, rolled out its national vaccine campaign in February last year, prioritizing health care workers and the elderly. It has since expanded its campaign to include the entire eligible population.
“Total vaccine administered till now: 164,475,652,” the NCOC said on Twitter.

The 100 million doses milestone comes amid a surge in coronavirus cases in Pakistan, with the number of new daily infections crossing 2,000 for the first time since September.
The NCOC reported 2,074 new cases and 13 deaths in Pakistan in the last 24 hours, with the positivity rate reaching 4.70 percent. It was below 1 percent only about two weeks ago.
