DUBAI: A unit of weapons maker EDGE has won a 3.2 billion dirhams ($880 million) contract to supply precision-guided munitions to the UAE Armed Forces.

The UAE forces will receive HALCON’s Thunder and Desert Sting ranges, the company announced at the Dubai Airshow.

The Thunder range consists of different types of aerial munitions, which use advanced navigational systems to pin-point target coordinates.

The Desert Sting is a light-weight guided weapon that can be deployed on multiple weapon racks on aircraft and drones.

HALCON chief Saeed Al-Mansoori described the deal as a “significant contract on a global scale for this type of weapons system.”
