Wael Mahdi is an independent energy commentator who is the current head of the business section and a senior business editor at Arab news.
Mahdi has over 16 years of experience in journalism and corporate communications. He started his career with Arab News and worked for Arabian Business, Alwatan in Saudi Arabia, The National, Asharq Alawsat, and spent almost a decade with Bloomberg, covering energy and oil.
He became one of the most sought after oil consultants in the region to specialize on OPEC-related matters, particularly in relation to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf.
He is also the co-author of “OPEC in a Shale Oil World: Where to Next?”
Prior to joining Arab News for his second stint, he worked with NEOM for almost three years first as a media communications manager, and then as a corporate social responsibility manager.
He holds a bachelor’s in political economy from the American University in Cairo, and received executive training from MIT, the LSE, the University of Cambridge, Yale, Rice University, London Business School, Dartmouth, and others.
