ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s top trade and commerce official left for Tehran on a two-day visit on Friday to attend the ninth Joint Trade Committee meeting between the two countries and discuss issues impacting their bilateral trade.
According to an official statement issued by the commerce ministry, prime minister’s adviser on commerce Abdul Razak Dawood is also accompanied by other senior Pakistani officials.
He will jointly chair the committee’s meeting with Iranian Minister of Industry and Trade Reza Fatemi Amin.
“The two sides will discuss barter trade, transportation cooperation and free trade agreement,” the ministry’s statement informed. “They will also focus on the development of frontier markets and issues impacting their bilateral trade.”
Pakistan’s southeastern Balochistan province shares a border with Iran.
The frontier regions of the two countries are economically dependent on each other, though Pakistan decided to fence its border with the neighboring state due to its complicated relations with Iran and to address security issues.
The Pakistani official will also meet other Iranian government functionaries during his stay in Tehran.
The top business leaders of the two countries as also scheduled to interact with one another during the occasion.
