Contemporary Arab art to go on view at Dubai’s Etihad Museum next month

The Dubai Collection is set to stage its first-ever physical exhibition at the city’s Etihad Museum on Nov. 6, featuring a selection of artworks from the region plucked from both private— including the private collection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, vice president and ruler of Dubai— and public collections.

 

  • Layla Al-Attar

    Hailing from Iraq, the 28-year-old artist, painter and director of the Iraq National Art Museum is known for her empowering works that recognize the importance of women in all spheres of society.

     

  • Fateh Moudarres

    The late Syrian painter was one of the leaders of the modern art movement in Syria. Moudarres studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, where he was influenced by Surrealism.

     

  • Sami Mohammed

    Hailing from Kuwait, the sculptor and artist is most known for his bronze sculptures.

     

  • Amine El-Bacha

    The artist was born into a family of painters and musicians in Beirut. El-Bacha worked with a number of diverse mediums, such as ceramics, tapestry, jewelry and poetry.

     

  • Dia Al-Azzawi

    Internationally recognized as one of the pioneers of Arab modern art, the Iraqi painter and sculptor is recognized for incorporating Arabic scripture into his artworks.

     

  • Louay Kayyali

    The Aleppo-born artist began painting at the age of 11 and held his first solo show when he was 18.
