ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported nine coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours, government data showed, marking the first time the country recorded less than 10 daily fatalities since November 2020.

Less than 30,000 people in a nation of 220 million have died of COVID-19 since the first case was reported in February 2020. Over 1,269,234 confirmed cases have been reported since then, of which 1,216,908 people have recovered. Over 100 million total vaccine doses have been administered since February this year.
There are, however, still 1,525 patients admitted in “critical care” wards, according to the national pandemic response body.
Deaths have stayed below the 50-mark since October 5. On Monday, Pakistan reported a coronavirus positivity rate of less than 2 percent for the 10th consecutive day.
Last week, active cases in Pakistan dropped below the 25,000 mark for the first time in seven months while daily coronavirus infections fell to their lowest level in a year.
